Electrical codes are revised on a cycle, adopted at different times by different jurisdictions, and frequently amended locally. Licensing is regulated at state level and, in some states, at county or municipal level. Permit requirements are local and vary.

Requirements described on this site reflect widely adopted practice at the time of writing and may not match your jurisdiction. Your electrician is responsible for holding the appropriate license and for obtaining any permits the work requires.

Note also that codes apply at the time work is performed. An installation built to the standards of its era is not in violation simply because requirements have since changed.

It indicates that coverage exists, not that an electrician will be available at any particular time. Coverage changes as electricians join the network and adjust their service areas.
